The Tennessee Tempo players are proud that they will be sitting along side 4-time US Champion and recent Continental Champion GM Alex Shabalov. Often known to his friends and fans as "Shaba." For those in the Nashville chess community that don't know much about Alex, he immigrated to the US from Riga, Latvia in the early 90's. He quickly took the US Chess scene by storm winning nearly every major event (such as the US Open, World Open, Chicago Open) within the first few years of living here. He now resides in Pittsburgh, PA. Shaba is known for his attacking prowess and exciting style of chess that is typical of the Latvian players. Shaba has agreed to play 5 games this year for the Tempo's regular season, some which will be on board two behind his good buddy GM Jaan Ehlvest. Here are a few photos of our players from the recent US Open in Indianapolis.
